Artist Statement :
My home has been in Richmond since 1959. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University with a major in Painting and I have done some post graduate study. I teach a weekly Painting Class at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frames and do free-lance graphic design. I have exhibited widely and have won several major awards for my work which is included in many private collections.
I have painted in Oils since I was ten years old. That is my primary medium although I am equally skilled with acrylic and watercolor actually all the media. I love the rich earthy smell of the oils as well as the richness and depth of the colors. I also have a passion for clay and when the opportunity presents itself I really enjoy that medium. I guess you could say I am enthralled with light and color as most artist are although, I paint in a very traditional way. Of course being an artist and growing older I respond to different stimuli all the time so, my method is subject to change at any time. I don't have any intellectual concepts wound up in my work I just paint what I respond to and want to see.
I love the ocean and especially the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Currently my wall at ArtWorks is filled with paintings of Hatteras and Ocracoke.
