Kay Krapfl - Painter

About the Artist

"As a child I would take my sister's leftover paint-by-number paints and make up my creations." Today Kay Krapfl's work comprises the ideas and techniques she has learned through continuous experimentation.

Kay has studied under such well respected artists as Stephen Pace at the New York Museum of Modern Art and George McNeil of Pratt Institute. She has exhibited extensively in one-artist shows in Atlanta, Chicago and West Virginia. Her work is hung in a number of private collections. Kay's "The Winter of '78" was selected as Best West Virginia painting and she has won numerous awards for her work, including an Exhibition Program on WWVV-TV in Morgantown, WV.

A visit to Paris and Giverny kindled Kay's love of Impressionism which altered her artistic course from abstract to Impressionist, the painting of color versus shapes. "I don't like to be rigid. I'm in love with Monet and the Impressionist movement. Their use of color to capture depth and space is fascinating."

While Kay enjoys a variety of artistic styles, Impressionism can be readily seen in a majority of her work. Oil, pastel, pen and ink, watercolor and acrylic are all mediums which she utilizes.

Kay shares her talents through teaching children, teens and adults. "I feel that I expand my art experience through teaching, and certainly learn a great deal from my students."

She continues to grow in her work and in her teaching. Kay has a love for both.
