Hugh Harris - Painter

Biography:

Hugh Harris works in acrylics, watercolors and pen & ink. While much of his work features nautical subjects related to the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and communities surrounding it, he has a growing body of new work featuring many other subjects and settings. His work is representational, using strong colors creatively to express emotion and seek balance, sometimes bordering on abstraction. His interest in art dates back to his childhood in Cincinnati, Ohio where he attended Saturday classes at the ar t museum, and participated in summer children's creative programs at the University of Cincinnati. Currently he works in his studio at Art Works several days each week, exhibits shows, festivals, galleries and art events in Richmond, the Northern Neck, Middle Peninsula, and Tidewater, and has in the past exhibited in Mid-Atlantic regional shows. He is a member of the Mathews Art Guild, and has work at Rappahannock Hang-ups in Kilmarnock, and at Riverview Gallery in Portsmouth. His paintings hang in private collections and businesses, including one at Newport News City Hall, three at Regent University and one at Peace College in Raleigh, NC. He is available for commissioned work and frequently paints houses portraits and boat portraits on commission. www.husart08.net
