Artist Statement :
I have considered myself an artist since early childhood and have worked in various artistic mediums over the past 50 years, including television set design and commercial graphic display, My paintings have been exhibited in the Richmond area for over 14 years.
The subjects and styles of my acrylic paintings are eclectic in nature. If I may be so blunt………….. I mostly paint to satisfy my own emotional need at the time but find myself overjoyed when someone really likes one of my paintings and makes a purchase. It is great to know that the painting will be on display to be enjoyed by others.
My first public showing of artwork in Virginia was a collection of seven Japanese block print-style paintings and portraits at the Fairfield Library in Henrico County. Many of my pieces have been displayed at Richmond City Hall during the Richmond Citywide Employee Art Show where I received several awards. From 1999 to 2001 I regularly submitted and had pieces accepted for display at Shockoe Bottom Arts Center. In addition, I have participated in various art sales at Pine Camp Arts and Community Center.
Since 2001 I have completed nine commissioned portraits. However, in late 2003 I began my Butterfly Portrait series. April 2004 was the public debut of the first two paintings from this ongoing series at the “Art In Bloom” fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network-Richmond. These paintings were also on display for two months at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in the hall just outside their library.
There is another series that interest me, that of my “Yellow Kitty” series. A photo I took of a yellow Farrell cat gave me the inspiration for the first painting, “Yellow Kitty and Friends”. The signature on these pieces is GP with a small flower. GP stands for Granny Pants.
Please take time to stop by ArtWorks to see all the great art that is available to you by other artists. You may by chance see one of my pieces, if accepted for exhibit, on the Second Floor.
ave any questions or are interested in purchasing any of my paintings.
I truly hope you enjoy my work. Thank you for taking time to read about me and to look at a few samples of my work.
