Cheryl Clayton, born in Virginia, studied Fashion Illustration at Virginia Commonwealth University where she received a BFA in 1988. Cheryl is a freelance artist who has concentrated mostly on contract work. She has been commissioned to design logos for hair salons such as Prestige International and Salon by Von, wedding and party invitations, business card logos and all occasion cards. Other projects have been for private collectors and locate businesses. Cheryl has also exhibited for the past several years during Richmond's Kwanzaa celebration. She has had solo exhibitions at the Richmond City Library displaying works in mixed media. A former resident artist at Shockoe Bottom Arts Center, her ambitions are to illustrate for magazine publications, for book publishers and to do more exhibits. Cheryl currently displays her art in her studio at ART WORKS in Richmond, Virginia. Here inspirations come from her and other's life experiences. She records and expressed the African-American experience using various mixed media. Cheryl's life message comes from Romans Chapter 8:28v. Of the master artists, here favorites are Toulouse-Lautrec, Antonio Lopez and Paul Goodnight. "The free-style of art allow one's innermost self commune with many." |
